My weekend in the country.

So, over the past weekend, I took a trip to Okolona, Mississippi ...my mother's hometown ...

A city that is about as big as the Georgia Dome ...probably smaller ...population of about 3,000 ...which I can hardly believe.

My mother's family friend is the town mayor, and she put together a lil festival for the town.  Vendors, a baby parade, a fun-run, an all white gathering, book signing, jazz show ..etc etc ...

I attended 1 thing.

When I tell you it was blazing outside.  Like, making eye contact had me sweating bullets.

It was ridiculous.  But I did enjoy the family time, and food.

Here's a few random pictures of where I was and people ...

We stayed at our family's house ( which initially belonged to my late grandmother and one of her sisters ) ....I believe that shit is haunted.  I know it is.

Anyway ..

Here's the house, no one is in the house unless we take trips out there and stay there ...

It's in pretty good shape, considering no work has been done on it in YEARS.  Literally.

Random pics from in the house ...I wasn't really about to battle the stairs with crutches and a camera in hand.

looks scary as hell up there, right?

This couch is mine ...whenever I get a new place, this will end up there.
Yes, it's an air matress ...most of the furniture is gone since no one lives there.

LOL EVERYBODY TELLIN' JOKES, OR "LIES" AS THEY SAY IN THE COUNTRY.

I don't think any of you know a family where EVERYONE'S drink of choice is rum & coke ..
Like, we went through about 5 bottles.

We'd peeled shrimp and chopped vegetables, because my aunt made shrimp and grits for the next mornings breakfast.
Glorious.

had to get some wheels when we went to the next town over.

A few pictures from the all-white affair"

The mayor!

My uncle, Earl.

My uncle's singer, Big D

I have no idea, but my grandmother taught all of her kids, and she made sure she let us know that.

Mom Dukes and baby bruh.

This is my uncle ...guess how old he is!

LOLLLLLL HIM AGAIN ! Laid out!

I did enjoy this ...

My uncle made it quite the experience ...he was up there on stage for over 4 hours!
Singing and actin' a mess!

Although I hate going to the country, I do enjoy the time spent with family.
